Mickey Mouse Makes Surprise Visit to Camden's Birthday Party

Camden celebrated his first birthday on Saturday. To start the day, we went to breakfast - something we'll continue to do each birthday. Grandma Ratts stayed with us Friday night and helped out tremendously for the birthday party on Saturday afternoon. Family & Friends began arriving around 4:00, and Camden had a packed house for his birthday party. As Camden began opening his gifts, there was a knock at the top of the basement steps...and it was Mickey Mouse! Camden had been using his Mickey Mouse cell phone all week to call Mickey and ask him to come to his birthday party. It paid off, and Mickey flew in from Orlando. Camden actually enjoyed seeing the real-life Mickey, compared to just watching him on tv. He even let Mickey hold him! Some of the other kids at the party weren't too sure about Mickey Mouse.

Camden received a lot of great gifts for his birthday -- 2 drum & instrument sets, 2 basketball goals, huge bowling pins/balls, bumble bee ride-on, Mickey Mouse golf clubs, Farm, letters & numbers for the bathtub, Elmo phone, Mickey Mouse shopping cart, Colts chair, Yo Gabba Gabba sprinkler (Plex), 2 Plex characters that talk, Yo Gabba Gabba dinnerware, Train Set, Little People Legos, Mikey Mouse Clubhouse figures, new Books, and many, many new clothes. Camden has already spent quite a bit of time playing with his new toys and sincerely appreciates the gifts he received -- THANK YOU!!!

On Friday night before his birthday, we went and had his 1 year pictures taken. Finally, we completed the year-long process of getting his pictures taken monthly!! The pictures turned out great, and Camden even did his walking/standing for some of the pictures. For the last set of pictures, we stripped him down to his diaper and brought in a birthday cake. He wasn't too sure of what to do with the cake and eventually tried to crawl through it! It was messy, but well worth it!!

Camden's 1 year appointment with Dr. Layman was yesterday (Wednesday 8/5). He weighed 25 lbs. even and was 31.5 inches tall. His weight was in the 80th percentile while his height was at the 95th percentile. Overall, Camden looked great and was given the clearance for just about anything -- eggs, milk (instead of formula), peanut butter, seafood, etc. So the next few weeks of trying out some of these things should be fun. On a side note, Camden didn't like it too much when we went into the Exam Room and the door was shut. We've noticed throughout the last 4-5 months is that Camden would get upset and have a death-grip on us when riding in the elevators. Then last week, Mommy & Camden went shopping and they went to the dressing room and the door was shut. Camden didn't like that either! So it appears that Camden has some sort of claustrophobia. But he sleeps in his room with his door shut every night...so who knows!!

Now...for a Rylee update! Camden loves his new puppy - he just laughs and pets her (before she gnaws on him). And when she goes into her bed and comes in from outside, you can hear Camden yell "Good Girl" to her. He is so funny! Mommy & Daddy, on the other hand, have their hands completely full with the new pup. She now likes to wake us up early in the morning to let us know she needs to pee and its time to eat breakfast. She also does a number on the plants in the backyard -- something she is going to learn quickly to stop. She is getting better, overall. We were able to take a walk around the neighborhood and she made it - without chewing on her leash!! Also, Rylee had her 12 week check-up on Monday (8/3). She now weighs 17 lbs. and is growing at the recommended rate. We are going to enroll her in either a puppy class or the first step of obedience school.
